Stan & Anne Ferguson: Everyday Heroes

stan.png

Stan and Anne are a duo in Steuben County. They have been CASA volunteers for the past 10 years. During these past 10 years, they have covered eight CHINS cases and advocated for a total of 14 children. They became involved in the CASA program when they retired and wanted to do something together, to help others, especially children.

They have been married for over 40 years and feel blessed with their six children, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. They love living on a lake and doing activities such as paddle boarding, kayaking, tubing or just cruising on the “toon” with their friends and family. Inland, they enjoy hiking/walking, tennis, travel, and quilting.

While they feel they have a full and active life with their large extended family and friends, they feel CASA adds so much to their lives. They feel their involvement in volunteer activities such a CASA and St. Vincent de Paul Society has increased their awareness of the hardship families experience every day. They said this volunteer experience can most certainly be challenging at times but feel that with added support, they can make a positive difference in these children and family’s lives. They feel this experience has been very rewarding and gives their lives additional meaning and purpose. They stated, “we’ve been given back so much more than what we’ve given.”
