Fergusons applauded for 15 years of service
Anne & Stan Ferguson celebrated for their 15 years of volunteer service.
Stan and Anne Ferguson were recently celebrated at Northeastern Indiana CASA’s volunteer banquet for their 15 years of volunteer service. At the celebration Executive Director Kristi Bachman said the couple was nominated for the Indiana GAL/CASA Volunteer of the Year award. While the Fergusons were not named the recipients, Bachman was pleased to tout their volunteer efforts that span more than a decade.
“As a CASA Director, you always hope that a volunteer, or in this case a volunteer team, will be committed to sticking with a child throughout the life of the case; to be the one, or two, constant in the life of that child throughout that child’s journey through the welfare system,” said Bachman. “You don’t imagine that a child will have to journey through that system for nearly 15 years, or if that does happen, the volunteer(s) will be steadfast in their commitment for that duration. Yet this is exactly what Anne and Stan did. They remained with this child until, at the age of 18, the child decided to learn the Collaborative Care program. Even then, Stan and Anne made sure the now young adult understands the process should there become a desire to re-enter the program.”
Nic Molyneux, the DCS director in Steuben County, had this to say about the Fergusons:
“One child had been involved with our local office for more than 10 years. During that period, Stan and Anne were the only CASA volunteers assigned to this child and ensured that they remained this child’s advocate throughout the lifetime of this child’s case. During the case, this child would experience more than 50 placement changes. With each placement change, Stan and Anne would remain committed to building and maintaining a relationship with this child.”
Steuben County Circuit Court Judge Jeremy Musser called the Fergusons, “dedicated” and “inspiring.”
The Fergusons were given a gift of appreciation for their many years of service.
