Virtual palooza pulls through for CASA
Northeastern Indiana CASA held its annual event to raise funds for the mission, but this year’s event went virtual. CASA Palooza, held in September, generated more than $21,900 through a few days of online auctions and generous sponsors. “I want to thank all of our sponsors, advocates and staff,” said Executive Director Brooke Griggs. “We weren’t sure exactly how we would transition Palooza to an online format, but we all pulled it off.”
Palooza goes virtual
Join us for a virtual CASA Palooza featuring an online auction! Auction opens at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10th (online only) & will remain open for bids until Saturday, Sept. 12th at 6 p.m.
Adoptions on the rise for CASA kids
ALBION – Social distancing requirements, in light of the COVID pandemic, has forced many volunteers and staff members at Northeastern Indiana CASA to look for unconventional ways to advocate for the children they serve.
The nonprofit works to advocate for children in five area counties who are in the judicial system. Taking time to visit the child’s home and school is part of the job, one that’s been limited due to the pandemic. However, staff members and volunteers have adapted to make sure every child they serve knows they are not alone and that their CASA is standing beside them — virtually or at a distance of at least six feet. Volunteers have been Face-timing, calling, texting and sending letters and cards to make sure kids are safe and as okay as they can be right now.

The board of directors is excited to announce the promotion of Brooke Griggs to executive director of Northeastern Indiana CASA. Brooke started as a staff GAL with Northeastern Indiana CASA in January of 2019 and moved into the role of Volunteer Coordinator in April of 2019. Brooke has primarily worked in Whitley County as a supervisor and advocate.

Cool marks one year as CASA leader
ALBION – It’s been one year since Kirby Cool took on the role as Northeastern Indiana CASA’s executive director. Cool filled the position when long-time director Kristi Bachman retired after 13 years. There were “big shoes to fill,” as Cool put it when interviewed about her new title a year ago. However, she came at the new position with a clear goal- to move the nonprofit forward.
In a volunteer banquet held last week, Cool addressed the crowd with a vote of thanks for the support she’s received during her first year.
CASA recognizes volunteers, touts zero wait list
KENDALLVILLE – A banquet was recently held to celebrate the volunteers serving Northeastern Indiana CASA and to applaud their efforts this year. Each year the nonprofit gathers staff, community leaders, board members and area judges to honor the CASAs who volunteer to advocate for children in five counties – Dekalb, Lagrange, Noble, Steuben and Whitley.
Golf outing garners more than $6K for Northeastern Indiana CASA
Northeastern Indiana CASA would like to express its gratitude for the support received from Auburn’s chapter of the Loyal Order of Moose. This summer, a golf outing was held by the Order to benefit Northeastern Indiana CASA, which featured not only a spirited game of golf but also a silent auction. Together with the charitable giving from the Order, as well as the proceeds from the event, a donation was recently presented in the amount of $6,500.
